Scotland may have a vast amount of countryside but there is still a surprising amount of things to do, see and visit when you’re here or enjoy if you live here! Scotland is much more than just whisky, rain and men in kilts… well maybe we have a few men in kilts. Our welcoming nature means we see about 3.2 million tourists a year, how great is that! Who could blame tourists when we have the spectacular old fortress of Edinburgh Castle, the highest mountain in the British Isles “Ben Nevis” and of course the mysterious Loch Ness. The Loch Ness is famed for its folklore monster that may or may not live in the murky waters below, and has been given the nickname “Nessie”.
The Scottish Highlands are great for avid hikers, and there’s many munros to choose from, 282 in fact! Whilst it may not be possible to visit all of them travellers say that you have to visit Ben A’an (Trossachs), Kilpatrick Hills (Glasgow), Goatfell (Isle of Arran) and Grey Mare’s Tail (Dumfries & Galloway) and Hog Roast Stonehaven caters in all these locations! Scotland is famous for some of its unusual cuisines, such as deep-frying everything e.g. Mars Bars, Pizza & Tunnock’s Teacakes! They are also famous for Athol Brose cocktail, a concoction of oatmeal brose, honey, whiskey and cream, and of course we couldn’t forget Haggis, consisting of sheep’s offal mixed with suet, oatmeal and seasoning all boiled in the animal’s stomach. Here at Hog Roast Stonehaven you can be safe in the knowledge that you won’t have to try any of these Scottish meals… unless you want to?!
